SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPY

The Speech and Language Pathologists of the Delaware-Union ESC provide a variety of services to all students in Delaware and Union Counties in grades K-12 and the special needs preschools. The services include: speech, language and hearing screenings, standardized testing of suspected handicaps, creating and implementing in-depth individualized therapy programs, and increasing awareness of potential communication problems. Students receive services for disorders of articulation, receptive language, expressive language, voice, stuttering and hearing impairment. Services are provided through pullout programs, whole class instruction, and in-class therapy. Students referred to the school psychologist for a multi-factored evaluation (MFE) are also tested to identify or rule out any communication problem that may be interfering with classroom performance. The speech pathologists provide consultative services for all classroom teachers. Throughout the school year the speech pathologists are also available for classroom presentations and preventative programs, such as having students bring their headset radios to school for calibration in order to encourage safe listening levels. Because the speech/language therapists are so closely involved with each student's in-class accomplishments, they participate in parent conferences, staff meetings, and written progress reports for report cards.
