Gifted Education Program Brochure

Gifted Education Goals

  • To identify gifted students in Grades K-12 according to state law
  • To encourage districts to develop a continuum of services for gifted students
  • To advocate for differentiation, enrichment, and acceleration based upon demonstrated need
To provide ongoing in-service opportunities to educators and administrators
  • To support the guidance departments of each district in providing for the social and emotional needs of gifted children
  • To promote enrichment opportunities to meet student needs by connecting community resources and schools
To communicate with administrators, teachers, and parents regarding updates on gifted information and address any questions or concerns as they arise
  • To support teachers and parents in their effort to guide and nurture gifted children

Philosophy and Beliefs

The Delaware Union ESC promotes the belief that gifted students need a qualitatively differentiated program that takes into consideration individual ability, learning styles, special interest, and higher level thinking skills. Based on this belief, we provide a strong support system for districts in planning and developing service options which promote and celebrate the unique talents and abilities of exceptionally able learners.

Individual students and society benefit when exceptional capabilities are identified and nurtured. Careful attention must be given to the development of individual interests and talents. It is through special interest areas that gifted students might best make contributions to self and society.
